Basically, I am a botanist. Since I moved to Germany for family reason at the end of the year 2010, I started to be interested on Chinese antique particularly Chinese porcelain and related Chinese history.

I have been diving into Chinese old porcelain and tried to get related books, scientific papers, and other infos e.g. via social media . Since I had been trained in scientific field with using technic devices and also the idea of dealing of data, I tried to combine my scientific knowledge to do analysis on the Chinese porcelain ware from different period and tried to understand the development of Chinese porcelain specially from Jingdezhen City, the porcelain capital of China.

It has been accepted that the development of Chinese porcelain is not only related to the production technique also to the material changing. Under this instruction the visual traces of this changing have been the main topic of my study. After long time investigation, the special terms of porcelain like ‘orange peeling’, ‘palm eye, ‘heaped and piled effect’ have been proved with digital photos and the related explanation has been tried to be given. If you have interests, you can find the video in youtube under ‘ceramic at botanylabyahu’.

In the November of 2018, I went to Jingdezhen City with my family. We visited the museums and got some connections with local experts:

In August of 2024, I went back Jingdezhen and stayed for three days in the Porcelain Shards Museum of Jingdezhen, which organized by a local but well-known collector, Luo Guoxing.

the author and Luo Guoxing (director of Porcelain Shards Museum in Jingdezhen)

In the Porcelain Shards Museum, the digital data were taken using mobile microscope. These samples are unquestioned from the early blue and white porcelain time including Yuan, Hongwu reign, Xuande reign and Chenghua reign.

In our website, you will find some original results from this trip, which might help you to identify the authentic porcelain item of Yuan and early Ming period using the microstructure including bubbles in the glaze, the iron spots.

Color of porcelain is another important role to attract people. It is also one topic for us to investigation. Particular in different era, the cobalt blue shows different hue due to the different cobalt ores. We use machine language Python to analysis the color, which makes those different colors comparable.
