Description
Marked and of the period of Daoguang reign (1821-1850).
The plate is detailed painted with 12 different tree/flowers including Osmanthus, chrysanthemum, rose, winter sweet, peony,poppy, prunus , hibiscus, Chinese peony, lotus, persimmon, china pink (clockwise) around the interior cavetto of the plate. In the center of the mirror there two peaches with leaves and one bat are painted, which brings longevity and good lucks in Chinese culture. On the exterior cavetto there painted five bats, which has a pun rebus of ‘五福捧寿’ (five bats bring good lucks). The rim is gilded. Some parts have been slightly rubbed away.
This plate has been carefully and nicely painted. The ground of the plants is painted with light yellow enamel and the grass painted with thin brown lines.
Condition:
General in good condition. In the direction of 6 o’clock direction, there is one chip with hariline extending to the mirror of the plate. Otherwise no other chip, hairline, bump….The thick enamel is almost preserved intact.
The material of the plate is in top quality. Such chinese plate with so fine painting from Daoguang civilian kiln in Jingdezhen is rather rare.
